Rev. Gardner C. Taylor speaks on the Church

This page will include community afflicting justice issues which are inadequately addressed or are ignored in silence by our people and its leadership both religious and secular.  You are invited to submit your justice issue suggestions.

Alcohol and Controlled Drug Addictions

Unfair drug abuse laws result in unjustly high rates of incarceration for Black offenders.  Insufficient treatment facilities restrict service to those seeking treatment.

Black Farmland

Racist governmental policies are main cause of loss of valuable Black farmland ownership.

Black Leadership Advocacy and Response

While some elements of Black leadership give audibly vocal and demonstrative response to episodic events, many are too silent on the underlying causative issues afflicting the Black community, often because it has become a cultural and traditional requirement to remain silent.  This is why normally affliction silent folk suddenly become loudly vociferous against the good advice from Dr. Bill Cosby.

Though silence aids and assists our afflictions, most of our churches are loud in praise service but quiet in community service.  Devil confrontation is taboo.

Business and Personal Loans

High discrimination rates against Blacks seeking business or personal loans.

Criminal Justice System Unfairly processes and convicts Black male youth and adults into the system.

Death Penalty

Too many innocent people convicted of capital crimes unfairly receive the death penalty.  Justice fails to apply the manpower, resources, fairness, time and money required to properly investigate and try cases, particularly for Blacks and other minorities.  Subsequent discoveries of innocence cannot reverse an execution.

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence out paces weak government prevention, surveillance and adjudication systems.

Education

Public schools largely fail to prepare Blacks students to compete in the career market place.  Black culture collapse and declines in appreciation of the value of education also contribute to this failure.

Employment

Appalling high levels of Black male unemployment (about 50% in NY) has grievous consequences and implications for the families and children related to these men.

Environmental Racism

Dumping of wastes in predominantly Black and other minority areas damages their land, water and air.

Executive Hiring

Enduring and unacceptable low comparative employment levels of Blacks in executive governmental positions such as department heads and commissionerships.  This pertains particularly in non social service positions.

 Health

Blacks have poorest levels and rates of fourteen (14) of sixteen (16) health indices.

 HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS epidemic afflicting the Black community is getting a weak response from us.  This helps accelerate its spread.

Housing

Great disadvantages exist for Blacks seeking fair and comparable housing for their dollars.  It has contributed to the pervasive segregation of neighborhoods and re-segregation of schools.

Iraq War

This illegal war (according to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan) has resulted in the deaths of over three thousand (3000) and injury to over seventy thousand (70,000) American soldiers and costs us over 8 billion dollars per month.  Worse, the Bloomberg School of Public Health at John Hopkins has recently estimated that our assault on Iraq has cost the lives of six hundred fifty thousand innocent Iraqi men, women and children.  Reverend Martin Luther King uniquely took a stand against the evil Vietnam War.  is there another?

Police

Improved measures governing policing in Black neighborhoods are greatly needed.  This includes adequate and appropriate resources, training and rules to enhance crime prevention, crime reduction, fair policing and crime solving.

Poverty

Poverty is painful and enduring.  The gap between the richest and the poorest of us is growing more and more.  A large segment of our community suffers from a poverty of mind, spirit and values as well as in economics.

Prison Industrial Complex

Disproportionately enormous Black prison population unfairly deprives Blacks of fifteen (15) percent of its voting strength.  Voting rights denied to felons.  Careers of others are built on the incarceration of Blacks.

 Rap Poison Music Lyrics

Music industry globally dispensing image disastrous word laden music which disparages the lives of Black, men, women and children.

Underlying Manifestations of Black Community Dysfunction

There is an absence of sufficient male models for our boys and for our girls and an absence of loving ever present fatherhood for teenage and single mothered children.  Negative male models and fathers are then provided by malevolentmoguls whose music plantation makes them rich by depicting our lives and community in conditions most miserable and wretched.
