Dear Ms. Sweeney:
We had written you in November 2008, regarding our concern
with gratuitous use of the "n" word on the ABC show "The View." Regrettably we
have received no response or acknowledgment of our letter.
We had requested that this word be included on the list of
prohibited words or expressions given to show personages. We urged you then, as
we again do now to recognize this word is received as highly offensive by a
large segment of our (African-American) community and many others without our
community as represented by View panelist, Elizabeth, are no less offended.
We simply ask your office and ABC voluntarily comport with
the significance and spirit of N word ban resolution unanimously passed by the
NYC Council in 2007.
The bleeping of this word on the January 11, 2010, View was
an appreciated and important advance on your part. Believing the "N" word to be
ABC ban worthy, we again request the studio audience offense portal be closed by
including it on your personage word ban list. The consequent bleep would then
not even be necessary.
